Reccomendations!

I was recently mentioned in the 'McSweeney's Recommends' in their online page about reccomendations for cool stuff, like music, artists, books, and jewelry! It says:

Lilliput Jewelry
A tiny designer, aptly named Lilliput, who designs even tinier necklaces is aptly named We are a fan of minutiae and an even bigger fan of anything miniature (muffins, dogs, etc.) Things that are smaller than a thimble or happen to be a choking hazard cannot be beat. Lilliput's necklaces make Barbie's hands look like hulk fists. Dreamy!

Exciting!

For those of you that don't know, McSweeney's is a pretty cool publishing house based in the US that publishes books, a few quarterlies and does lots of other interesting things. Fun!

Why are you so obsessed with little things???........

What we have learned from this exercise is that I am terrible at blogging!

I last wrote over two weeks ago. But I do have an excuse as I was on holiday for several weeks. Generally I think holidays will be filled up with things I want to get done, such as write blog posts, but alas! Never the case!

My foray into miniature life is going well. I thought I would write this second post about when I decided I liked small teeny-weeny items.

When I was little, one of my favorite book series was called Brambly Hedge by Jill Barklem. The stories were about a community of mice who lived in the Brambly Hedge. The best bit about these stories is that the mice all wear clothes and have very elaborately decorated little homes. The books were filled with wonderful drawings of cross sections of the homes that the mice kept inside tree stumps and other locations. They were always filled with many details and created the image of a perfect tiny world. To a little girl, these pictures were the most amazing things and could keep me occupied for hours staring at every little feature. The illustration here is from the book Spring Story.

When I was small I genuinely believed that these type of tiny worlds existed and quite liked the idea that out in the garden there were mice in tiny clothes, sitting on tiny chairs, eating tiny meals from tiny plates with tiny silverware!

My mother had a small model chair that she placed here and there around the house, and I thought it was something that had once belonged to the mice of Brambly Hedge! Since then I have always loved tiny things and have a very hard time not gathering them up when I see them. So, I decided to actually do something with them, hence combining them with my other great interest: making jewelry!

If you are interested in learning more about Jill Barklem's books here is a great website dedicated to Brambly Hedge and the characters. It shows some of the beautiful drawings as well.

More to come on other tiny worlds I have been inspired by!

WELCOME!

WELCOME TO THE FIRST POST!

I LOVE miniature things. Always have! This blog is going to be dedicated to this bizarre love I have for tiny versions of real life, and the things I make with them. I intend to update this blog regularly with news of my progress as well as fun facts about tiny worlds! Check back soon :)

This is my first attempt at blogging, something I have to admit that I am just learning! So, if anyone has any constructive criticism for me, don't hesitate to pass it on.
